The official police report will typically include:
- The time, date, and location of the accident
- The names of the involved drivers
- The contact information of anyone who was injured
- A description of injuries sustained
- Descriptions of the involved vehicles

- Names of others involved, including witnesses and property owners
- Diagrams of the scene of the accident
- Descriptions/depictions of damages sustained
Remember, in addition to filing a police report, you may need to report the accident to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), even if no one was injured in the accident. If the collision resulted in more than $1,000 worth of property damage, you will need to report it to the DMV.
How Long Do I Have to File a Car Accident Claim in California?
